Louis J. "Barry" Nash
(1913 - 1942)

Age 29. 47 Cushing Street, Wollaston (Quincy), MA. Born (as Louis Nasci) on 6/11/1913, in Quincy. Died at Cambridge City Hospital, Cambridge, MA, "...of smoke inhalation, and burns about the forehead" (Quincy Patriot Ledger, 11/30/1942). Quarterman at Bethlehem Steel Co., Fore River Shipyard, Quincy. Known generally as "Barry." In a mixed foursome with his wife Helen, age 26, and Mr. and Mrs. Donald and Dorothy "Frances" MacMillan, ages 30 and 26 respectively, of Quincy, all dead. The Boston Post, 12/01/1942: "Louis' body was one of the first taken from the flaming building. His wife is still missing." Pair married on 6/14/1941, in Jamaica Plain (Boston), MA. Companion couple was wed on the same date, but in North Quincy (Quincy). All met aboard the steamer Chatham on their respective honeymoon trips in 1941 as the ship sailed from Boston. Group photo made in the Grove main dining room one year earlier (used here) was reprinted in the 11/30/1942 Quincy Patriot Ledger (caption: "...The two Quincy men and their wives in the group are all dead today"). Known by the modified surname "Nash" since birth. Was feted at his pre-wedding bachelor dinner in June 1941 as, "...a talented mechanic, able supervisor, and genial associate" (Quincy Patriot Ledger, 6/19/1941). Was a lifetime Quincy resident. Full build (WWII draft registration, October '40: 5' 9½," 196 lbs.). Parents Mr. and Mrs. George and Josephine (DiTocco) Nash (formerly "Nasci"). Burial with his wife at St. Joseph's Cemetery, West Roxbury (Boston), MA. Couple were two of 24 fire victims interred at St. Joseph's Cemetery, the second-greatest final resting grounds for all Grove casualties (after Mount or "Old" Calvary and its combined New Calvary Cemetery, also in Boston, a total of 30 burials).
