Age 27. 4 Churchill Road, Winchester, MA. Born 5/31/1915, in Boston. Died of burns (death certificate). Salesman, Service Caster and Truck Co., of Albion, MI, and Somerville, MA. His wife Pauline, age 28, also perished. Couple attended the club in a party of five with Mr. and Mrs. Robert and Gladys Charles, ages 27 and 29 respectively, also of Winchester, and Mrs. Edith Vucassovich, age 41, of Beverly, MA, all dead. The husband of Mrs. Vucassovich, Michel P., age 61, was away on business and was not present. "Police checking on the Saunders family found Mrs. Vucassovich's car parked at the Winchester house, and further investigation...found her missing from home last night" (Salem Evening News, Salem, MA, 11/30/1942). Of the Saunders' home: "Only the barking of a dog was heard within the house when reporters called there yesterday" (Woburn Daily Times, Woburn, MA, 11/30/1942). His remains were taken to Northern Mortuary, Boston. Wife's father, a retired Boston police sergeant living in Florida, was interviewed in the 12/01/1942 St. Petersburg Times, St. Petersburg, FL (article: "The charred remains of his son-in-law were identified Sunday morning"). The Battle Creek Enquirer and News, Battle Creek, MI, 12/10/1942: "At frequent times they had entertained executives of the Service Caster and Truck Co. in the Cocoanut Grove, the last of these being President Walter C. Peak a week before the fire." Couple had relocated from Cambridge, MA, one year prior. Was large-framed (WWII draft registration, October '40: 5' 11," 225 lbs.). With his wife were two of nine Grove victims from the northwest Hub suburb of Winchester. Parents Mr. and Mrs. Lee MacIntosh, Sr., and Theresa (Walters) Saunders. Cremation of his remains with those of his wife at Mount Auburn Crematory, Cambridge. Burial site (if any) unreported. Middle name MacIntosh.
