Surname was misreported as "Allen" in early news accounts, was later corrected. Was single. Formerly a well-known area wrestler (WWII draft registration, October '40: 6' 0," 210 lbs.). Was a lifelong Boston resident. One of 38 Grove victims from the Dorchester "neighborhood" of Boston, twice the loss count of any other single Hub district (Brighton was next with 19 dead). One of 107 single male patron victims of the disaster (also 101 married, 20 engaged, 5 divorced and 4 widowed men guests died, a total 237 male customer casualties out of 256 males dead overall). Was one of 228 victims with death certificates showing "burns" as the primary cause of death, another 228 (exact) pronounced "carbon monoxide poisoning" as the main cause, eight more listed both sources (an additional 26 gave other origins or stated simply "trapped in burning building").
