Age 22. 251 E. Archwood Avenue, Akron, OH. Born on 4/10/1920, in Akron, OH. Died 11/29/1942 (Sunday), of burns (death certificate). Ship's Cook, 2nd class, U.S. Navy, based at the Receiving Station, Fargo Barracks, South Boston (Boston), MA. Companion (or companions) if any at the club unknown. His remains were identified at Northern Mortuary, "...from personal effects and from dog tag..." (First Naval District inquest transcript, 11/30/1942). Was single. Living with his parents in The Bronx, NY (at age 10), as of the 1930 federal census (his father was a blasting contractor). Was a graduate of the Immaculate Conception School (coed Catholic academy), Connellsville, PA. Navy enlistment in November 1937. Was previously based at Norfolk, VA. One of three Grove fire casualties from Ohio (also Ensign Carl Russell, U.S. Navy, age 21, and Miss Jacqueline Weiss, age 18; in addition Ohio native and victim Hubert Fitch, age 26, was relocated by his employer to Worcester, MA, six months prior). Parents Mrs. Claudine L. (Armentrout), same address, and the late Mr. John Harry, Sr. The Morning Herald, Uniontown, PA, 12/01/1942: "Although Naval authorities advised immediate relatives that the boy would be buried in Arlington Cemetery, a request was made by his mother that the body be removed to Akron for burial there." Burial at Mount Peace Cemetery, Akron, OH. Posthumous update (Akron Beacon Journal, Akron, OH, 4/10/1943): "The navy department...today officially notified Mrs. Claudine Harry...that her son...died in the line of duty as a victim of the Cocoanut Grove holocaust in Boston last November." Middle name Robert.
