Surname was misspelled "DeMateo" (with a single "t") on the final official November 1943 Boston Committee on Public Safety master list of casualties (correct surname spelling on his death certificate). Medium build (WWII draft registration, February '42: 5' 9," 175 lbs.). Trio were three of seven Grove victims from the Hub "neighborhood" of Roslindale (also William Donovan, age 29, Mr. and Mrs. Francis and Grace Gatturna, ages 31 and 28, and Miss Madeline Wennerstrand, age 26, all patrons). Parents Mr. and Mrs. Antonio and Jennie (DeOrio) DeMatteo, same address. Burial at St. Michael's Cemetery, Forest Hills (Boston), MA. One of seven casualties interred at the above resting grounds (also Pvt. Fred Altieri, U.S. Army, age 29, Miss Maria DiFilippo, age 28, Salvatore Ferraioli, age 25, Miss Estelle "Stella" Kwartun, age 26, club busboy Joseph Tranfaglia, Jr., age 16, and Mrs. Mary Zenkin, age 32). Middle name Louis. Surname was pronounced "De-MATT-tee-oh" (accent on the 2nd syllable).
