Age 30. 4 Fitz Terrace, Wilmington, MA. Born 11/01/1912, in Wilmington. Died of burns (death certificate). Private 1st class, U.S. Army Air Corps. Was visiting home on a Thanksgiving furlough from Hendricks Field, Sebring, FL. Guest of honor in a party of 12 organized by an older brother John, age 41, dead. Attended the big afternoon B.C./Holy Cross college football game at Fenway Park with the sole group survivor, Pvt. Robert Horrigan, U.S. Army, age 29 (Born 10/04/1913. Died 5/09/1997, age 83), of Turners Falls (Montague), MA, also based at Hendricks Field. Men were joined later by his older brothers John (above), James, age 38, and Wilfred, age 32, also Harry Connick, age 54, of Swampscott, MA, Miss Mildred Fox, age 29, of Cambridge, MA, Miss Mary Kelly and Miss Mildred Rogers, both ages 33, both of Lowell, MA, Miss Natalie McCullough, age 31, of Saugus, MA, and Miss Ruth Preble and Mrs. Margaret Stewart, ages 27 and 25 respectively, both of West Medford (Medford), MA, all dead. Few known details of their final moments were provided by Pvt. Horrigan. Group had dinner at the nearby Parker House hotel, were seated in the main dining room and had just been served untouched drinks when fire broke. One of 60 "probable identifications" listed Sunday morning at Southern Mortuary, Boston (all male). Was single. Reported in a 12/06/2009 Wilmington Town Crier retrospective to be the only brother of four present without a date. Was previously employed by the Wilmington school department at Silver Lake elementary school. Survived by two sisters and a fourth brother (none present at the club). Older sister Anna (as Mrs. Michael H. Barry) recalled in a November 1967 news interview that Henry phoned home following the gridiron loss of Boston College: "I can hear my brother's voice now...He said he wished they could come right home, because they were so disappointed" (Boston Herald-Traveler, 11/26/1967). First name was misreported "Harry" on the final official November 1943 Committee on Public Safety master list of casualties (correct given name "Henry" shown on his death certificate). Medium build (WWII draft registration, October '40: 5' 9½," 150 lbs.). Had brown hair and green eyes (above WWII draft registration). One of two patrons named "Henry Fitzgerald" present when the fire broke (also Henry E. Fitzgerald, age 39, of Dorchester, MA, a survivor in a separate party). Parents Mrs. Mary A. (Walsh), same address, and the late Mr. William J. Fitzgerald. Burial side-by-side with his victim brothers at Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington (stone misstates his birth year as "1913"). Services and interment were photographed and the devastating family loss a focus of much post-fire coverage by the Hub press. Middle name Thomas.
