In a mixed-gender foursome with his companion Miss Florence Zimmerman, age 22, of Dorchester, dead, and Mr. and Mrs. Maurice, age 26 (Born 3/17/1916. Died 7/16/1992, age 76. Last residence Revere, MA), survived, and his wife Jennie "Jean" Levy, age 25, died, of Roxbury (Boston), MA. Group arrived about 9:15 p.m. Were seated at a small table in the cellar Melody Lounge adjacent to the northwest corner where the blaze began. Mr. Levy to Boston Police, 11/29/1942 (quote): "The top of the tree caught fire...This set fire to the ceiling and then it started to go...This friend of mine tried to put the fire out...Corporal Goldenberg." At the city inquests on December 1: "Levy related that Corporal Harold Goldenberg...was the man who was blamed by the bar boy for unscrewing the light bulb" (Roxbury Citizen, 12/03/1942). Was single. Previously a pharmacist, Wales Drug Co., Dorchester (WWII draft registration, October '40). Obvious physical characteristics (WWII draft registration: "wears glasses always"). Parents Mrs. Pauline "Polly" (Bachner) and stepfather Mr. Israel M. Shain, same address. Late birth father Mr. Samuel Goldenberg. Burial at Mount Lebanon (Beth El) Cemetery, West Roxbury (Boston), MA. One of 23 casualties interred at Mount Lebanon collective Jewish cemeteries, the third-most after connected Mount or "Old" Calvary and New Calvary cemeteries (30 burials), followed by St. Joseph's Cemetery (24 burials), both also in Boston. In memoriam notice published four years later in the 11/28/1946 Boston Herald ends: "...Lovingly remembered and sadly missed." Middle name Norman.
