Age 25. 1110 River Street, Hyde Park (Boston), MA. Born 2/22/1917, in Dorchester (Boston), MA. Died of carbon monoxide poisoning (death certificate). President and general manager, Karnow Bros., Inc., Boston, glove factory inherited from his late father. Was at the club with friend Miss Barbara Keshen, age 23, of Brighton (Boston), MA, dead. Left his home at 8 o'clock Saturday evening. "Although unaware of his destination that evening, his family realized that he must have been among the victims when he failed to return at an early hour Sunday morning" (Hyde Park Tribune, 12/03/1942). His remains were located on Sunday at Southern Mortuary, Boston. "At first there was some doubt since the name on the morgue's list of dead had been spelled incorrectly..." (Hyde Park Tribune, 12/03/1942). Surname was misspelled "Karanow" (with an extra "a") in some news accounts and on the final official November 1943 Boston Committee on Public Safety master list of casualties (correct surname spelling on his death certificate). Was single. Was a graduate of Boston University, School of Business Administration. Parents Mrs. Sarah L. (Kanter), same address, and the late Mr. Nimon Karnow. Father collapsed and died at a wedding one year prior (The Boston Herald, 11/03/1941: "He had just finished a dance with his wife..."). Family glove business started in 1904 was still operating as "Karnow Brothers" (high-visibility clothing and work gloves), in Peabody, MA, into the 21st century. Burial at Washington Street (Pride of Boston) Cemetery, Woburn, MA. One of nine Grove casualties interred at the Washington Street collective Jewish cemeteries (also Milton Adler, age 25, Hyman Horch, age 31, Philip Seletsky, age 39, club waiter Harold Snyderman, age 32, Hyman Strogoff, age 41, Jacob "Jack" Vigdor, age 47, Miss Florence Zimmerman, age 22, and Miss Keshan). Middle name Stanley.
