Age 31. 28 Myrtle Street, Ashland, MA. Born 6/16/1911, in Attleboro, MA. Died of burns (death certificate). Assistant production manager, Waltham Watch Co., Waltham, MA. Attended the club with his wife Aurise, age 27, dead. Also present in a mixed-gender foursome his married younger half-sister Mrs. Harrilyn "Dolly" Taft, age 21, of Pawtucket, RI, and a coworker, Arthur Connelly, age 30, of Auburndale (Newton), MA, both dead. The military husband of Mrs. Taft was away serving overseas. Arrived with Mr. Connelly from their work in Waltham to his rented Ashland home at 5 o'clock on Saturday, "...and all left in high spirits, for Boston..." (Framingham News, Framingham, MA, 11/30/1942). His remains were identified with those of his half-sister on Sunday at Northern Mortuary, Boston. Was living with his parents in Attleboro as of the 1930 federal census, later moved to North Attleborough, MA. Living with his wife in Pawtucket, RI, as of the 1936 Rhode Island mid-decade state census. At 5' 2," 155 lbs. (WWII draft registration, October '40) was the third-shortest male fire casualty among those with known WWII draft registrations (includes nearly all men present except those already in military service or born starting in 1925), after victims Max Gorvine, age 44 (height: 4' 9½"), a patron, and Grove mens room porter Shadrack "Shady" Plenty, age 54 (height: 5' 0"). With Mrs. Taft were the only half-siblings to be killed in the disaster. With his wife were the lone Grove casualties from the "Clock Town" suburb of Ashland (birthplace of the famed "Telechron" electric clock). Divorced parents Mrs. Ruth E. (Chatterton) and Mr. Leonard W. Tattrie. Stepfather Mr. Harry L. Kelley. Burial with his wife at St. Joseph Cemetery, Cumberland, RI. Couple with Mrs. Taft were three of eight victims interred in the Ocean State, and the only two buried at the above St. Joseph's Cemetery. Middle name Alexander.
