Age 15. 299 Eliot Street, Milton, MA. Born January 1927, in Manchester, NH. Died 11/29/1942 (Sunday), at 1:00 a.m., Boston City Hospital, carbon monoxide poisoning (death certificate). Senior at Boston College High School, Boston. Went to the Grove with teen friends Stephen Mengos (Born 7/10/1925. Died as Stephen C. Mengos, Sr., on 3/06/2010, age 84. Last residence Fountain Hills, AZ), injured, and Walter Rapp, dead, both age 17, both of Milton. Stayed inside the club with Mr. Mengos while young Rapp went to look for others who had not yet arrived. At City Hospital: "Of those who expired after being put to bed, the first was Charles Sheehan...who died of asphyxia" (Holocaust!, by author Paul Benzaquin, who was granted access to private hospital records during his Grove research in 1959). Initial confusion regarding his name: was at first identified as "Joseph Carey (alias Charles Sheehan)" on early hospital lists and in news accounts (possibly a false name found on his remains), was later corrected. Was raised in Manchester, NH. Moved with his family to Milton two years prior. "The name...was added to the New Hampshire casualty list late yesterday [Monday], when positive identification of the body was made by the boy's parents..." (Manchester Union, 12/01/1942). Was the fourth-youngest person and one of four aged 15 years known present when the fire broke (also victim Miss Eleanor Chiampa, a patron, and survivors Anthony "Tony" Marra and James Speros, club workers). Was the second-youngest patron (after Miss Chiampa) and the youngest male patron known present. Was the youngest male fire victim at 15 years and 10+ months. One of four Grove casualties from the suburb of Milton (also Miss Ruth Dwyer, age 26, John W. Griffin, age 34, and the above Mr. Rapp, all guests). Parents Mr. and Mrs. Charles R., Sr., and Rose E. (Doyle) Sheehan, same address. Burial at Locust Grove Cemetery, Merrimac, MA.
