In a group of six Clinton residents who attended the historic afternoon Holy Cross football upset of 28-point-favorite Boston College at Fenway Park, four dead including her husband James, age 28. Party was seated at a table on the main dining room raised rear terrace (was not connected with a large actor Charles "Buck" Jones party of 29, also located on the raised rear terrace). "Sunday afternoon, Francis J. Flaherty...a brother of Mrs. Salmon, completed identification of her body, following her death at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston" (Clinton Daily Item, 11/30/1942). One month later coworkers at the above printing concern agreed to donate medical apparatus to the local Clinton hospital in her name. "No decision has yet been reached as to just what will be purchased...When the equipment is installed...it will be suitably inscribed to her memory" (The Evening Gazette, Worcester, MA, 12/26/1942). Was a lifelong Clinton resident. Was a graduate of Clinton High School in 1930. Married on 1/04/1942, in Clinton. With others in her party were the lone four Grove victims from the Worcester County reservoir town of Clinton, also four of 125 fire victims (more than one of every four dead) known to have witnessed the shocking season-ending football contest at Fenway Park in Boston (likely others unreported). Parents Mrs. Mary A. (Ruane) and the late Mr. Peter A. Flaherty. Double funeral with her husband was held in Clinton on December 3. "During the services all stores in the business section and the Town Hall were closed and flags were at half-staff" (Worcester Telegram, 12/04/1942). Burial with her husband at St. John's Cemetery, Lancaster, MA. Middle name Flaherty.
