Age 22. 232 Vernon Street, Worcester, MA. Born on 10/09/1920, in Worcester. Died of carbon monoxide poisoning (death certificate). Draftswoman at Worcester Pressed Steel Co. (metal stampings), of Worcester. Companion (or companions) at the Grove unknown. Her remains were transported to Southern Mortuary, Boston. "The body will be brought to Worcester later today [Monday] and friends and relatives may call at the home tonight" (The Evening Gazette, Worcester, 11/30/1942). Was single. Was recent graduated from the David Hale Fanning Trade School for Girls, Worcester, machine school of the National Youth Administration (forerunner of Worcester Technical High School). Made non-Grove news (at age 16): "For injuries in an accident on Lake avenue...Anna Chiras of Worcester has been awarded $153 in her suit against George Zamaites also of Worcester" (The Evening Gazette, 12/01/1937). Was a lifelong Worcester resident. Was one of 19 fire victims from Worcester, tied with Cambridge, MA, for the third-most deaths from any single municipality after Boston proper (147 victims) and Quincy, MA (24 dead). One of 116 single female patrons to perish (also 93 married, 14 engaged and 4 divorced women guests died, a total of 227 female customer fatalities out of 234 women killed overall). Parents Mr. and Mrs. Thomas and Petronia "Beatrice" (Kazlauskas) Chiras, same address. Burial at St. John's Cemetery, Worcester. One of eight Grove casualties interred at St. John's Cemetery (also Miss Monica Conlon, age 22, Miss Alice Deignan, age 23, Samuel Falcone, age 28, Miss Helen Fitzpatrick, age 24, Warren Foisy, age 27, Miss Marion Looby, age 19, and Miss Hazel Proal, age 25, all patrons).
