The Cocoanut Grove Memorial Committee cordially invites you to join us for the
the 75th Anniversary Memorial of the Cocoanut Grove Nightclub Fire
to be held in Liberty Hall of the Revere Hotel in Boston,
on Saturday, November 25th, 2017 from 1 – 3 PM.
The Revere Hotel, which is built on the footprint of the former Cocoanut Grove Night Club,
has graciously offered to host this event on the last Saturday of November,
symbolically identical to the actual Fire itself, which was the last Saturday that year as well, in 1942.
While Tuesday is the actual Anniversary,
the previous Saturday should prove to be more convenient for all to attend.
Previously, Cocoanut Grove Memorial Committee worked with the late Mayor of the City of Boston,
Tom Menino, to rename a street running over the footprint of the Club as 'Cocoanut Grove Lane.'
This was the first street renaming in Boston in over 50 years. Three of the remaining survivors were able to attend and spoke at the event including the late John Rizzo, the late Ann Gallagher and Marshall Cole.
In attendance of the last event were many family members of those involved, Mayor-Elect Marty Walsh, representatives of the Boston Fire Department, the Boston Police Department, the global medical community, other first responders, and the military, with approximately 400 attendees in all.
At this upcoming 75th Anniversary, representatives of the survivors and the first responders will participate.
Coffee and light refreshments provided by the Revere Hotel will be served following the ceremony.
The Revere Hotel is located at 200 Stuart Street.
Parking is available on-site at the hotel garage.
We would appreciate, for planning purposes, an RSVP by e-mail if you plan to attend.
